GOVERNOR CALEB MUTFWANG TO DELIVER NIGERIAN FILM CORPORATION (NFC) 2025 ANNUAL FILM LECTURE

The Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC), has announced that Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State, will deliver the 2025 edition of her (NFC) Annual Lecture, scheduled to take place on December 3rd, 2025 in Abuja, Nigeria; according to a statement issued by Brian Etuk, NFC’s Director of Public Affairs, on Thursday, November 6th, 2025.

The annual lecture, a major film industry event of the Zuma International Film Festival, focuses on shaping narratives and conversations wrapped around not just on the emergence, but also on the potency of film as a soft power and economic force. Outcome of the film lecture series, the statement added, have enabled Nigeria address challenges as well as, upscale opportunities that abound within Nigeria’s creative ecosystem, particularly the film industry, through the evolvement of policy interventions and initiatives.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang, through the topic of the lecture ”From Policy to Power – The Future of Africa’s Cinematic Influence” ,which will take place at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, formerly International Conference Centre, Abuja, will not only present a historical perspective on film policy and power, but will critically evaluate current realities about cinematic influence, the challenges of policy formulation and implementation within Africa’s creative ecosystem, the imperatives of shift in focus from policy to implementation as well as, the intentional harnessing of opportunities the film sector offers; through impact driven transformations and creative innovations.

Dr. Ali Nuhu, NFC’s Managing Director/Chief Executive, in the statement said that the annual film lecture series, introduced in the year 2006, have sought to address and proffer workable solutions to aid practitioners and stakeholder’s performances and engagements, positive and impactful outcomes as well as the growth of Nigeria’s film industry. The lecture series, Dr. Nuhu said, continues to provide valuable opportunity for the NFC and the nation to address critical national creative economy challenges. For instance, in 2017, General Yakubu Gowon, Former Head of State, chaired the NFC annual film lecture, which was presented by Professor Femi Shaka of the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on the topic “Sustaining Socio-Cultural & Political Integration in Nigeria: The Film Perspective”. In 2019, Professor Umar Garba Danbatta, Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) delivered the lecture titled “The Creative Economic Imperatives of a National Data Tariff Policy on Content Distribution”.

In 2020, Alhaji Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) delivered the lecture titled “Online Film Content Acquisition and Distribution: Impact on the Emerging Digital Economy”, while in 2022, Dr. Ramatu Tijani Aliyu, Honourable Minister of State, Federal Capital Territory, delivered the lecture titled “Post Covid-19 Funding Policy Framework Partnerships Between the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) And The Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC), For The Nigerian Film Industry Through Rebates, Location Incentives, Tax Credits and Film Grants’’. In the year 2023 Mr. Zacch Adedeji, Chairman of Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) delivered the annual film lecture, titled “Film Tax Rebates as Added Revenue Window for Economic Growth”, while that of 2024, was delivered by His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Kashim Shettima, GCON; Vice President, Federal Republic of Nigeria; titled “Digital Ecosystems: Redefining Africa Cinema”.
